Dr. Tachado’s laboratory investigates why asymptomatic HIV+ individuals with reconstituted CD4+ T-cells, on highly active anti-retroviral therapy, and aviremic are highly susceptible to pulmonary infections. He is involved in elucidating the molecular mechanisms of increase susceptibility and identifying targets that boost immune response without inducing viral replication. Using human alveolar macrophages from HIV+ and healthy subjects as models, he specifically studies the influence of HIV infection on Toll-like receptor signal transduction.
