Rachel A. Ross, MD, PhD, is a psychiatric neuroscientist with an interest in anxiety disorders and feeding behavior in basic science, clinical treatment, and social policy. Dr. Ross’ background is in biological engineering, neuroscience, and the gut-brain axis, with clinical expertise is in psychiatry and metabolism. She is the assistant director for the Research Concentration Program for the MGH/McLean Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program, which she also completed in 2014.
Dr. Ross maintains a small clinic focusing on anxiety and eating disorders, and primarily works in the labs of Bradford Lowell, MD, PhD, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Kerry J. Ressler, MD, PhD, at McLean Hospital. Using genetic, computational, and behavioral techniques in mice, she studies the circuitry of the hypothalamus and connected brain areas involved in food intake behavior, neuroendocrine, and autonomic responses to stress, with the overall objective of understanding how survival drives related metabolism organization decisions made at higher levels.
