Dr. Tejera-Alvarez’s research interest is focused on the identification of genetic and environmental factors that affect the development and progression of the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), by using a multi-omic approach (genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic). Dr. Tejera conducts her research in the context of the Molecular Epidemiology of ARDS Study, a prospective cohort of patients admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center intensive care units with known risk factors for development of ARDS. Dr. Tejera-Alvarez’s work also encompasses the functional characterization of genetic factors associated with ARDS by the use of in vitro and ex vivo assays as well as the use of animal model of lung injury
