Professional Narrative

Dr. Oksana Berezovska is a lecturer in the Center for Interprofessional Studies and Innovation at MGH Institute of Health Professions. Oksana is also Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, in addition to leading a Neurobiology of Alzheimer’s disease research laboratory at MGH Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease.  She teaches Chemistry in our online prerequisites for the health professions course offerings.

Her research focuses on molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways by which various stress factors lead to chemical unbalances, neurodegeneration and memory impairments. The main goal of Dr. Berezovska’s research is to identify targets for therapeutic intervention in order to treat or prevent age-related disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Her research efforts resulted in eight reviews and book chapters, and over 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Berezovska is also a reviewer for a number of scientific journals and is a member of scientific review study section for Alzheimer’s Association and ad hoc grant reviewer for the National Institute of Health.

Dr. Berezovska is a neuroscientist, and chemistry is an intrinsic part of her professional world. This explains why she is the course author and has taught in all of the courses in the MGH Institute’s online chemistry curriculum: Intro to Chemistry for Health Professionals, General Chemistry I, and General Chemistry II.
