Professional Narrative

Dr. Can (Martin) Zhang is an Assistant Professor in Neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Harvard Medical School (HMS). Dr. Zhang trained in medicine and earned his MD and MSc at the Weifang Medical School, Shandong, China. He then completed his PhD training in 2007 at Drexel University, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at MGH and HMS. Dr. Zhang has been an Assistant Professor of Neurology at MGH/HMS since 2013. Dr. Zhang’s research program has been focused on identifying the mechanism of actions in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), with the goal of identifying molecular components and biomarkers with a view to develop novel preventive and therapeutic strategies for AD. Specifically, Dr. Zhang is investigating the potential of novel compounds and biomaterials (e.g., γ-secretase modulators, curcumin analogs, natural compounds) to change the neuropathology of AD. Additionally, Dr. Zhang’s multi-disciplinary approaches seek to achieve neuromodulation at the systems level and to define the biomarkers involved in both normal and impaired cognition.
