Dr. Buys earned his PhD in Biotechnology (2003), Master of Science in Biotechnology (1996), and Bachelor of Science in Biology (1994) from Ghent University (Belgium) before pursuing post-doctoral training at MGH and Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Buys chose the field of biotechnology to pursue translational research and mentor the next generation of basic and clinical scientist. He attributes his level of success to having great mentors, and being surrounded by brilliant colleagues.
Dr. Buys is the recipient of the following honors: AHA Merit Award Young Investigator Award ; Winner of the MGH Research Fellow Poster Celebration, AHA Merit Award for Young Investigators, Poster of Excellence 5th Annual MGH Poster Celebration, Best Team Abstract for MGH Clinical Research Day, Finalist for the Louis N. and Arnold M. Katz – Basic Science Research Prize for Young Investigator, Best Team Abstract for MGH Clinical Research Day, and Department of Anesthesia Poster Award (First Prize) for MGH Clinical Research Day.
