for his undergraduate studies and medical school. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of North Carolina, where he also served as a chief resident in internal medicine for one year. He completed his gastroenterology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. While training in Boston, he also received a Master of Public Health from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Barnes then returned to the University of North Carolina to complete an Advanced Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, where he is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Clinical Focus: Dr. Barnes specializes in the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
