Professional Narrative
Introduction of digital-health has made the health sector more efficient and effective in order to provide a better service to the patient; however, it can also lead to an increased risk of revealing privacy of patient information. Dr. Lasantha Ranwala's vision is to make the digital-health sector more secure by improving the privacy and security of digital-health applications.
Dr Lasantha Ranwala graduated from the Medical Faculty, University of Colombo in 2007 and obtained his Master’s in Biomedical Informatics in 2012 from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. He completed the MD in Health Informatics in 2019. In his thesis, he focused on “Health Information Security Governance Framework for Healthcare Institutions in Sri Lanka”.
He is also a visiting lecturer at Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University Of Colombo, Nawaloka College of Higher Studies (Affiliated college of Swinburne University Australia and School of Ophthalmic Technology, National Eye Hospital Sri Lanka.
He is also a software designer and computer programmer. He has won several international awards including Commonwealth Digital Health Awards in 2016 and 2017 for the medical software he developed for the health sector.
In 2019 he was selected to the Roster of Experts on Digital Health for World health Organization (WHO).
