Professor, Department of Pathology, MD Anderson Cancer Center
Location: United States
I am a Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Dermatology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. I am board certified in Anatomic Pathology (National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD) and Dermatopathology (UT MD Anderson Cancer Center) and have a previous residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (Universidad Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru). I also obtained a PharmD parallel to my MD studies in Peru, where I completed MS studies in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
My research interests comprise cutaneous tumors with emphasis in lymphomas and melanoma. In lymphomas I have conducted studies in rare aggressive primary cutaneous tumors such as gamma/delta T cell lymphoma (expanding the description of the epidermotropic variant) as well as more indolent entities such as lymphomatoid papulosis (type D) and CD4-positive small to medium size T cell lymphoproliferative disorders. In melanoma, i have focused in acral lentiginous melanoma for which we described KIT mutation and protein expression status in a large series of cases and described TERT amplification in progression to metastasis. I have presented my research and taught in many national and international conferences and courses. Currently, I served as Section Chief of Dermatopathology and I am a member of the executive committee of the International Society of Dermatopathology.
