Instructor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School
Location: United States
Dr. Patel’s research focus involves the molecular biology and pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung diseases. Specifically, Dr. Patel is exploring the role of a homeostatic cellular process called autophagy in the development of fibrosis. He employs molecular biology, cell biology, and animal models to study fibrosis. The goal of this work is to better understand how manipulating autophagy may alter fibrogenesis and provide the basis for treatment of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Dr. Patel’s educational background includes Johns Hopkins University and NYU School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and his fellowship in the Harvard Combined Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Training Program.
